This was discussed in today's WG meeting, and we decided to not merge this:

due to the concerns raised on https://github.com/rust-embedded/cortex-m/pull/457, mostly PR noise
The only (non-dev) dependency we have is nb 1.0 which is unlikely to ever get a new major release.
