Brazilian Portuguese Translation #448

Hey there! Following our exchange on Hacker News yesterday, I've started translating the new version of the book to Brazilian Portuguese. I've translated the first part of the intro (to contextualize the book to potential readers) and I'll focus my efforts on chapters 2, 3, 4, and 6, as per your advice. (Chapter 3 has some translated parts already)

Like on #375, I've created a new repo/github pages site for the translation:

Compiled Site: https://coreh.github.io/rust-book-pt-br/ Repo: https://github.com/coreh/rust-book-pt-br

Once I have more content available, and the mdbook side of things is unblocked, I can structure my translation in the right format, and open a PR to this repo.

Quick question: I'm currently planning to translate non-standard library and non-crate-specific trait, struct and file names to Portuguese, (e.g. having Usuario instead of User, but preserving names like Box or rand::thread_rng() in English). This seems to be the trend among most programming books in Brazilian Portuguese, for didactical reasons, since it eases a bit of the cognitive load on non-english speaking readers, while preserving correctness. Are you okay with that approach, or would you like me to preserve the code examples as-is?

Thanks in advance!

You're awesome, thank you so much for doing this!! 🥇

The strategy you have for translating the custom types, traits, file names, etc sounds good to me-- whatever will be best for the reader :)

Also, feel free to translate whichever parts you would like, as long as you're ok with potentially having to redo chapters later. We're going to update chapter 1 last to make sure all the installation steps, for example, are up to date right before we go to print. I'm keeping this github project up to date with our status on each chapter, so as each chapter gets to the "frozen" column it should be fine to translate without needing to be redone later.

There's another effort by a group in brazil that looks to have started from coreh's work and continued here: https://github.com/rust-br/rust-book-pt-br

Hum... Hello, people!

I want to help in the Brazilian Portuguese translation; can you tell me how?

carols10cents commented 7 years ago

Hi @AndersonTorres! I'd suggest opening an issue over at https://github.com/rust-br/rust-book-pt-br maybe?

dlight commented 7 years ago

@AndersonTorres we are coordinating on the rustlangbr Telegram channel. You may take a chapter for translation from here, but prefer chapters labelled frozen (this list was taken from the frozen column here)

Hi @leandroleo2, I'm not the quoted one, but it think you should check this repo: https://github.com/rust-br/rust-book-pt-br
