As we worked to design the Foundation we spoke with many officers, directors, and lawyers from other software Foundations. Learning from others is a cornerstone of the Rust Project, and the Foundation effort is no different. Once fully established, we expect the Foundation to eagerly share experiences with others and continue to learn from others’ experiences in turn.
I wonder about the knowledge share between other programming language foundations, it would be helpful to have someone specific on a foundation that talked to other foundations, the points raised in the other issues could be considered in relation to other languages so that wider opensource wins, it is better if languages can do some knowledge share where relevant.
Specifically I am sure that less popular but powerful languages like Haxe would benefit from some knowledge share and experiance of Rust Foundation and vicer verser. Especially given that there is always some cross over of language domains, where projects often use multiple languages and may even use similar libraries.
Specifically you can contact Haxe foundation: https://haxe.org/foundation/
I am sure there are other similar places to contact languages like Perl, Python etc...
Any legal issues I expect very relevant to consider in respect of joined up approach so that any problem faced by one opensource language community with patent trolls or corporations/government body with bad intent - is headed off before it can impact other communities, and safe guards and approaches are shared.
