PROJECT DETAILS:
A quick multiplayer game written completely in Rust. The aim being that everyone attending can play it by the end of the Hack and Learn event. As an MVP, aiming to be able to play via the terminal through either a WebSockets or REST based API.
OUTLINE
To keep things simple and as a quick starting point, the idea is:
Each game will have multiple rounds
Users with custom colours and slogans
Users can play multiple rounds and have a universal score
A round itself should be straightforward, such as a simple quiz or simply guessing the right number or maybe even a virtual horse racing betting game where you can bet virtual currency!
Display a scoreboard
Although this is supposed to mainly a backend and CLI related project, I'm sure many of you, like myself, have ample front end tech stack experience. So IF we have the time we could create a simple UI in TypeScript + React for example.
PLAN
We're not talking a complicated RPG or FPS here - it's more about:
Agreeing a concept quickly
Splitting tasks up between people
Get an MVP going
Add more features if time permits
Presenting to the rest of the group
Playing!
SHORT BIO:
I've been a Tech Lead for the last few years. Equally at home talking to people or coding away and ideally both! Love building tech teams, codebases and tech stacks from scratch. My daily tech stack is normally: Rust, TypeScript, React, Redux Toolkit, Tailwind, Firebase and Azure DevOps.
LOOKING FOR:
Whether you're a highly experienced Rust developer or just know the basics, for this project I'm sure there'll be a role for you so come join and say hi! :)
