Both the tar.gz and the zip included in the release do not include referenced repositories. I think they should not be included as they give the impression that the release is only related to the files in them.

They are automatically generated by GitHub and Ruuvi cannot remove them. You could ask GitHub to add submodules to source packages, https://github.com/github
