[ ] check against any updates, i.e. re-generate bindings from SWIG
[ ] avoid name(space) clashes, i.e. make sure the library becomes bio_phylo_beagle.dylib
[ ] develop a coherent,documented test case

Alternatively, Alexis Stamatakis's PLL looks like it has a more understandable API - but no interface.
