Extra Utilities with Thaumcraft: Item aspect loss #586

When using Thaumcraft (v4.2.3.5) with Extra Utilities (v1.2.4) or Extra Utilities (v1.2.4a), I can't scan coal, charcoal, and sand. However, I was able to scan the items when I used Thaumcraft (v4.2.3.5) with Extra Utilities (v1.2.3). Because of this, I think that Extra Utilities is related to the issue.

I've commented this bug on the Thaumcraft GitHub repository, but I was asked to post it here as well. From that post, here was how I came to my conclusion:

  1. I created a new instance of Minecraft (v1.7.10) with MultiMC.
  2. Using the "Install Forge" button in MultiMC, I installed Forge (v10.13.3.1360).
  3. I ran the game once, and exited the game...
  4. In the "Loader mods" section of MultiMC, I included Thaumcraft (v4.2.3.5). When I tested with Extra Utilities, I would add it here also.
  5. I ran Minecraft, and created a new world. Game mode = creative.
  6. Using the creative search menu, I gave myself: a Thaumometer, coal, charcoal, and sand.
  7. I tried scanning coal, charcoal, and sand.

Additional note: I tested four situations: Once without Extra Utilities, once with v1.2.3, once with v1.2.4, and once with v1.2.4a. Without Extra Utilities, I was able to scan the three items.

Here's a link to the issue, on the Thaumcraft GitHub repository: Azanor/thaumcraft#1730

Have you been able to replicate this w/o MultiMC?

With the official launcher, I've gotten the same results.

Here's what I did:

  1. Using the official launcher, I ran an instance of Minecraft 1.7.10
  2. I closed Minecraft, and then ran the forge installer for v10.13.3.1360
  3. I then ran the Forge Instance once.
  4. I added Thaumcraft (v4.2.3.5) to the mods folder for Minecraft.
  5. I ran Minecraft (with the Forge instance).
  6. I created a new world, Game mode = creative
  7. Using the creative search menu, I gave myself: a Thaumometer, coal, charcoal, and sand.
  8. I tried scanning coal, charcoal, and sand.
  9. I exited Minecraft.

I then added Extra Utilities (v1.2.3) to the mod folder, and repeated steps 5 - 9. After that, I replaced the Extra Utilities jar with v1.2.4, and did steps 5 - 9 again. I replaced the Extra Utilities jar with v1.2.4a, and did steps 5 - 9 one last time.

Without Extra Utilities, or with Extra Utilities v1.2.3, I can scan sand, coal, and charcoal. With Extra Utilities v1.2.4, or with Extra Utilities v1.2.4a, I cannot scan the three items.

I have this same problem, using the official MC launcher, Thaumcraft 4.2.3.5 and Extra utilities 1.2.4b

Update: I recently updated to Extra Utilities v1.2.10, and it looks like I can now scan charcoal... But using the same procedure I used on April 16, I still can't scan coal and sand.

I'm using Extra Utilities v1.2.12 and I'm having the same problem.

I am also having this problem with Extra Utilities v1.2.12. and I have went through a lot of work to narrow it down to a Extra Utilities issue and not a Thaumcraft issue. I hope there is a way to get these to GREAT mods to play nice with each other.

I just noticed this issue today, but I've been playing both FTB DireWolf20 1.7 (with Extra Utilities 1.2.12) and a private mod pack which also uses the same version of Extra Utilities, and I didn't have problems with either of these packs. I read another thread where it was suspected that the timing of the item injection in Extra Utilities was causing the problem, so maybe another mod I was using elsewhere was changing the timing and fixing the issue. I took a look at the different mods in the pack and found that if I add Chisel, the problem seems to go away. I tested with a new mod pack. It's MC 1.7.10, Forge 10.13.4.1566, Thaumcraft 4.2.3.5, Extra Utilities 1.2.12, and Chisel 2.9.4.10. Without Chisel, the problem crops up. With Chisel, I can scan coal, charcoal and sand no problem. I haven't thoroughly tested this, but I added Chisel to the new mod pack I was playing and the issue disappeared there as well. I hope this proves to be a good workaround.
