Rectangle doesn't start at login/startup #1238

Open gh-skatt opened 1 year ago

gh-skatt commented 1 year ago

macOS version: Ventura 16.5 Rectangle version: 0.67 (73)

Installed via Homebrew, "Launch at login" is ticked in the preferences.

rxhanson commented 1 year ago

Try updating to the latest version (0.70) and let me know if you still have an issue.

gh-skatt commented 1 year ago

I'll have to wait until 0.70 hits Homebrew, and will come back to you then.

I have this issue as well. Rectangle was installed via Homebrew on Ventura 13.6 (M2 Max Mac Studio), and it doesn't matter whether I drag-n-drop the app into Login items, click the app's checkbox to Launch at Startup (also unchecked and rechecked), or click the [+] button in Startup Items. When installed via Homebrew, the app does not register as a startup item, as confirmed by the SMLoginItems tool. This was working fine right before the 0.72 update. p.s. I love this app, thanks so much for your hard work on it!!

@chrismillerkeys In Ventura, the launch on login behavior changed so that apps can now register directly with macOS, rather than via a helper application (using SMLoginItems). If you're having an issue, then you'll want to manage this directly in the login items section in System Settings. I suspect your issue might have something to do with installing via homebrew, rather than a download from the website, but I can't think of a reason for this off the top of my head.

I haven't installed via brew. But through the dmg. But I'm still facing this issue.
Though I may have tried brew install/uninstall rectangle in the past.

I had the same issue, installed via the website.

In my settings, I had the app registered as start when login, but with a blank icon instead of the proper one.

What worked for me to fix it was to remove this app, and then drag and drop again the app from the finder to the lanch with session settings. Now I have the proper icon, and the app starts with the session.
