Clicking on menu bar item during running event kills the menu bar item #1

How Long Left 3.2.3 macOS Catalina Version 10.15.5

For the current version of HLL, running on Catalina, clicking on the menu bar item when an event is in progress kills the menu bar item - it disappears from view and even Bartender cannot see it. If I find a past HLL notification and click on it, the menu bar item launches again, showing a clock and then going back to the running event, and Bartender can see it in it's list of running menu items. Given these conditions, I cannot update any preferences, such as active calendars, reducing the usefulness of the tool. Maybe this is a Catalina thing? Can this problem please be sorted out?

Hey Scott,

That’s interesting. Definitely haven’t seen that before. I’m running Catalina so it’s definitely not just an OS issue.

When this issue occurs is HLL still listed as running in Activity Monitor?

Thanks for the quick response. The "How Long Left" process is present in Activity Monitor until I click on the menu bar item (left-click, right-click, option-left-click, etc), then it is removed from the list.

Out of interest, I quit bartender, as it hides menu bar items, and the same thing happens (HLL dies, it's not just hidden).

That’s interesting. Seems like there’s a bug in the menu generation code that’s causing a crash. It doesn’t happen to everyone, so that would suggest that there’s some edge case I haven’t accounted for. Can you think of any unique settings you have set on your Mac that I might not have accounted for? I’m thinking of things like language, locale, calendar preferences, the way dates are formatted etc.

Also, if you are familiar with the Console app, do you think you could maybe identify the crash in there?

I'm in Australia set up with all the normal locale stuff. Language & Region settings has a panel showing how I'm set up, compare this to yours.

I'm on a work Mac and have had firewall issues at times, but all other calendar apps are working fine (Calendar, Fantastical). The events it usually displays are from a Google calendar, and are sometimes oddly named (like #523), but HLL is crashing for all calendar events. I have emailed the most recent crash report to you.
