I think you should change unprecedented to something that references the 1918 Influenza (I note that the scientific community try to avoid calling it "Spanish Flu"). There were similar lockdowns then, similar arguments against and for them too, and cases exploded when they were lifted - could be a very good case study. Johnson is our (UK's) Prime Minister, who was hospitalised last week after contracting COVID - the irony is strong here.
