⚠Warning⚠: Please watch this video before making a choice. It takes a critical look at this coin.

With this project, I'm getting some strong turbo encabulator vibes. It all seems to be heavy technical jargon with no real explanation of what it actually does. To be honest though, to me it seems all the more likely that this is just all going over my head. I feel like the author of this is some Satoshi Nakamoto figure, who has only shown up twice. The first time was to release whatever that code does and another to add an unhelpful readme.

From the little I've been able to gather, this is some sort of cryptocurrency-like thing. I'm hesitant to call it a crypto simply because I don't understand what this is. The proposed readme is just as confusing as the current and offers no additional insight into this project. It links to some website safemoon.net, but I encounter the same issues of non-understanding there. Furthermore, the git repositories it links to are all under some org called Safemoon-Protocol. To me, it seems like a community org that has sprung up around this.

Some readers might now be wondering why haven't I researched this? I can definitively say I've tried. I've looked up Safemoon directly, and all of the technical jargon I don't understand. By looking up Safemoon directly I have had no luck in understanding this any further. The jargon has lead me on a different path, and it is one of even further confusion. To state simply, it has been no help to me trying to understand an ever-increasing rabbit hole of technical information.

In all, I'm just trying to understand what this project is, and what its goals are. If you know anything about this project, any support on this matter would be greatly supported.

Edit: It appears I have not made it clear that I understand this is crypto-based. I understand that this uses Ethereum, what I don't understand is what sort of product this is. I can't tell if it is a crypto, a managed digital asset, etc. My refined question is; what is this product, where did you hear about it, and do you personally utilize it?

Edit 2: If your looking for a proper breakdown of this project, Coffee Break/Coffeezilla is going to be covering this coin soon. If you don't know who he is, in essence he now mainly focuses on exposing scams. I would recommend at least considering what he has to say before continuing on this venture.

Was just checking in to see if anyone responded, and I what I found instead is really sketchy. Most issues, and comments on issues are being done on accounts less than a month old. Documentation of this: (BekoYnc gets 2 because they where made in the last 4 hours) image image image image image image image image ... and many more. I've only stopped because anymore would just be spam. Checkout all the profiles of those posting here. I bet they have been made very recently.

The code is a smart contract wrote in solidity. It looks legit as smart contract. Here you can find it in blockchain: https://bscscan.com/address/0x8076c74c5e3f5852037f31ff0093eeb8c8add8d3#code

I'm not that inside cryptocurrency but looks all core logic of safemoon should be written here. Try to got some today and process is pointing to this smart contract at the end. Looks kind of open for me. If this code is legit than maybe all project is. Will have a look to the code a bit deeper when have time.

Just because you don't understand what's going on with smart contracts and cryptocurrency doesn't make it sketch.

Who said I don't understand it? I will check it tomorrow.. but is not that fake project as you try to say.. at first sight could be perfectly legit.. btw nice how you can build new project just writing a smart contract :)

I don't feel like arguing, so I'll list a few things.

  1. I quite honestly felt this could be a joke, hence the reference to the "turbo encabulator"
  2. I was debating to myself that it is less likely to be a joke considering the community surrounding this
  3. I'm just trying to understand what this project is. So I salute you for what I can only describe as "gatekeeping"

@Huskydog9988 maybe the accounts are new because non-developers wanted to ask some questions and created github account for this.. 🤷‍♂️

inthyoceans commented 3 years ago

@Huskydog9988 I’m a new account and the reason being, I have never used GitHub or heard of Safemoon. I invested first and am researching second, the safemoon website brought me here (If you goto safemoon.net on the drop down, press safemoon contract, it brings you here). I still don’t know a lot about safemoon but I believe many people are new users like me for this reason.

Huskydog9988 commented 3 years ago

@Dea7h-cyber and @smirth94, both of your suggestions are likely answers as to why the accounts are so new. smirth, I would like to further address your comment by asking what exactly you invested in? I've always understood this was crypto-based, (I've been terrible at underlining this), but I never understood exactly what. From your comment, it appears that this is some sort of coin? If so you could you explain how you invested in it? I would also love to know where and how you heard about this.

What is a joke in crypto? Dogecoin was born as a joke and now is on top 10.

andreapigatto commented 3 years ago

By the way GitHub is done for developers and this section for issues about code. Is not a social network. So let's keep it clean and move on these discussions on Twitter or other socials

What is a joke in crypto? Dogecoin was born as a joke and now is on top 10.

  1. I think you fail to understand what I was even referring to at that point. To be clear I was referring to the ambiguous project as a whole. I was unaware that this project was a specific cryptocurrency. (I'm assuming this is a cryptocurrency now.)
  2. By saying "joke," I was implying in more laymen's terms that the project was similar in tone to those like dogecoin and nft_ptr. (Also, who said jokes can't be taken seriously. By pointing out that dogecoin is in the top 10 coins your indirectly proving this point.)

By the way GitHub is done for developers and this section for issues about code. Is not a social network. So let's keep it clean and move on these discussions on Twitter or other socials

  1. GitHub is basically a social network for developers. You can follow and followed, you can "star" or "like" repositories, there is even an algorithm for finding new repos. So, unlike what you claim, GitHub is a social network.
  2. I would happily move this to a separate platform. For example, this is the perfect use case for the new discussions feature, but, seeing as to how it isn't enabled here, we can't utilize it. Now, for moving to other platforms, using anything but official communication channels for this project would be anything but effective, and would solve nothing. Seeing as to how this is the only official place, consequently, people will mainly look to this repo.
  3. "this section for issues about code." Historically on GitHub the issues tab has been utilized as bot a general discussion board and issue tracker for a project. This very use case is what (I believe) lead to the creation of discussions.

Now that I have successfully contributed to a flame war, can we all PLEASE, just stop. Enough is enough, and these pointless argumentative comments (from everyone) solve nothing.

(Thank you @inthyoceans for that link.)

Did you end up buying SafeMoon?

Huskydog9988 commented 3 years ago

If you have to ask, then I would probably say not to. If you really want to invest in crypto, a "safer" bet would be Ethereum/Bitcoin. Or, you could do Coinbase's learning program and earn free crypto that way.

andreapigatto commented 3 years ago

still investing in Ethereum/Bitcoin in 2021 with all the better projects out there is a bit crazy.. but your money, your investment.. on my side yes I risked 50$ on safemoon.. I will not be homeless if I lose everything.. in the meantime I have millions of them now.. let's see where this FOMO will bring us :)

Huskydog9988 commented 3 years ago

Most of these coins are just based on Ethereum, if not just using their blockchain. Without getting too into the weeds, safemoon is using a technology that is entirely based on Ethereum, meaning it is just a "free-loader" on the blockchain. So, I see no reason to invest in something that in all honesty just seems like it was designed to capitalize on FOMO.

To further incentivize you to question your investment, let me pose a few questions. Why are we treating a currency like a stock? Do we treat the USD, the EURO, the POUND, or the WON as investments? Expect for exchanges, nobody really does. So, I have to ask why aren't we treating a cryptocurrency like a normal currency? You may say it's an investment, but then you're missing the point that a currency is mean to be spent. Furthermore, we are currently in a crypto bubble. With these sky-high prices, it is bound to come crashing down, just like all those dot-com companies did in the early 2000s. I'm not saying that crypto is going away, in fact, I think it is the future. I just think people are overhyping this, and we will all soon see a very major market correction.

But as you said, it "your money, your investment".

andreapigatto commented 3 years ago

I agree on last part. There will be soon bear market with bitcoin back to 10-15K area and newcomers portfolios will be hit like crazy. Apart of that cryptos are not just currencies. When you buy a coin you are investing in a project. Especially cause we are far from daily life adoption. Still is just trading or investment. Because of that you invest in the technology and the future potential usage (can be retail but even many other usage of blockchain x se). That been said big masses don't know what they are buying if we consider it investment. Doge and project like this one can skyrockets just on FOMO, marketing etc and are designed just to make money for the owners or hodlers. But as said almost no one knows what blockchain is and what they are buying. This is why in this phase, far from adoption and utility, this make still great sense. Then one day we will see just 10-15 projects surviving based on use cases or utility and all rest gone. Will be not surprised if bitcoin and maybe even ethereum will be not in this list.

arlenner commented 3 years ago

So just to clarify for everyone who is just looking, I've read this and can tell you it's not a 'scam' per se, its just a coin designed to do nothing but reward holders for just not selling it. It doesn't solve a problem but it's not an invalid token, it's perfectly legitimate as an ERC/BEP20 token.

Huskydog9988 commented 3 years ago

Technically yes this is a real crypto, but that ignores the fact of how the public will perceive this project. Most in the public, at least in my opinion, would perceive this coin as a 'scam' due to its overhype, 'pumped' price and general marketing.
