not displaying images/thumbnails in Wordpress Multisite 3.2.1 #254

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install a theme using timthumb.php into Wordpress Multisite
2. You will notice the photos are not displaying
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
You see the alt tag for the photos instead.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.8, Linux

Please provide any additional information below.
I believe the issue is that timthumb cannot locate the images due to MS using a
blogs.dir directory at least from the reasearch I did. None of the solutions
work for me or are totally outdated versions of the script and vulnerable.
Basically there are a ton of hack fixes but none I trust. Can you please
provide a version that works with Wordpress Multisite?

Hi - this is not a bug and will not be changed I am afraid. TimThumb is not a
WordPress plugin. You will need to edit your theme to make TimThumb work

fair enought, but it's also the the reason that TimThumb is so popular.
Wordpress Multisite is growing quickly. Can you not update the script to
include an approved solution for a Multisite scenario?

I am afraid TimThumb can not be made to work with WordPress multisite reliably.
There are hacks that can be included, but they rely on the script being placed
in specific directoriesm and on additional parameters being sent to the theme.
There's no clean, reliable, method to make it work.

The easiest way to get TimThumb to work is to update the theme as I detailed
above.
