Change to Account Preferences for Upgrading CRM

I preface this by stating: pardon my terrible drawing....

Account Preferences

I am raising the notion that rather than including more friction in the signup process by asking CoCalc users for additional information, we should instead change the account preferences page to be more profile-like.

By which, I mean the following:

Include the Avatar functionality (below the picture shown) in the account preferences panel, but inside of this "account" panel, which I am going to rename the profile panel in this discussion. It will help with the image of building a "profile" (rather than simply giving minimal account information) if your friendly smiley picture (i.e., professional headshot or whatever else) is included above your name.

Let's allow people to give us as much information as they want. As a result, they will get better (more responsive and personable) treatment.

Organization: [Find your organization from a managed list, or add your own]

• We can track various domains/people for these organizations
• This also can enable users' functionality, like finding colleagues/collaborators quickly and finding relevant organizational information in the CoCalc share server.

**_This raises the question: What if I want to list multiple? A +/- button to add or subtract organizations with associated titles/roles would satisfy this.

Title: [Find your title/role from a managed list, or add your own]

Research Interests: [Choose several from a managed list or add your own]

Social Media connections could be available (upon request) to other users for published materials (to contact the author or collaborators). Attached and displayed on user profile.

(Most Important)

• I want their LinkedIn URL to be stored in the database. It gives me everything else listed here and increases my chance of having up-to-date information (ex., real-time shifting positions in roles/organizations). People are much more likely to let LinkedIn know they no longer work at company X than CoCalc.
