Bookshelf idea

Idea:

• A "blog" type thing where I can rate books
• A place to play with skewmorphic designs and/or actual 3D rendering on the website
• Initial page is an endless bookshelf, perhaps with sections
• On hover, the title of a section is revealed (e.g. "5 star", "literary fiction")
  • Also, maybe a little avatar on a library ladder thing rolls over to the section you hovered?
  • and of course he would go up and down the ladder too

New concept with ideas from Vishal:

• It's a complete single page 3D experience, so probably host in separate repository
• Use 3JS or something to create it, not just the usual vanilla stack
• There can be a project page for it with description of what it is and why I made it (that info is separate from the experience itself)

You load in and you're in front of a bookshelf. It's a secret bookshelf/door thing, so the main block can be slightly visually distinct from the background. There will be one specific shelf in focus at a time. Each shelf has a little hanging sign with a description.

The first shelf might be labeled "Select a medium" and will have (generic) books, each with a medium (e.g. books, tv shows, movies, etc) on the spine. Clicking on it will select that medium as a filter. To the right of the books on the final shelf there will be an "ornament" (e.g. a lamp, a small bust, a snowglobe, etc). Clicking the ornament will engage a secret door mechanism, sliding the shelf back into the wall. After the door opens, you will enter the room behind which will be filled with a shelf specific to your filters, separated by rating. This content shelf will be a horizontally scrolling interface with most entries shelved but a few on display, just like a library.

Usability features:

• When you are looking at the filter shelf, if no selection is made within a few seconds...
  • If no filters are selected: a random book will tip outwards and back, indicating that action can be taken
  • Otherwise if not on final shelf: An arrow indicating that you can scroll down to the next filter shelf will appear
  • Otherwise: the ornament will shine, indicating it can be used to confirm the selection
• When looking at a content shelf there should be a "leave" button at the bottom probably. Leaving the content shelf will fade to black, and then from black fade back to the filter shelf scene.
