hi,

i had remuco 0.7.2 with ubuntu 8.10 and mpd working without any errors.

now i am using remuco 8.0.1 with ubuntu 9.04

the client finds the computer, but no players!
error meesage on the client: Selected device is not reachable
The phone and the computer are paired. file transfer is possible.

i have started remuco-mpd with the  export
PYTHONPATH=$PYTHONPATH:/usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages command.

ps ax shows  12745 pts/0    S+     0:00 /usr/bin/python
/usr/local/bin/remuco-mpd

so i think its running?

Your player adapter is working as expected. At a first look this seems to
be a Bluetooth problem and not a Remuco problem.

Can you try Remuco 0.8.1 with Ubuntu 8.10 (maybe a with a Live-CD) or
Remuco 0.7.2 with Ubuntu 9.04 ? This would help to find the problem source.

One more test .. while remuco-mpd is running

 $ sdptool browse local

should list a service called 'MPD' .. if not, there is a problem in the
Bluetooth stack or the Bluetooth Python bindings.

 sdptool browse local gives a very long list of services.
There is one with MPD:

i tried remuco 0.8.1 under Linux Mint 6 (Ubuntu 8.10) with exactly the same
result.

I would test remuco 7.0.2 under the two systems, but i don't have the deb
file anymore :-(

As far as i remeber, there was a workaround for ubuntu with a precompiled
deb file. That version worked fine with my hardware.

I guess the problems relates to the new Bluetooth stack version introduced
in Ubuntu 8.10. I also experience Bluetooth problems since Intrepid and
also some other users had problems with things which worked fine before
(see this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/298430 ). It looks
like all this is still not fixed in Ubuntu 9.04 (the problem here is that
it works for some users and not for others for non-obvious reasons - for me
it works sometimes .. aargh).

The mentioned workaround (described at the linked page) is to use Bluetooth
libraries from Hardy (which were quite stable).

thanks a lot!!

i've installed remuco 0.7.2 on ubuntu 9.04 (i had to install libmagick10
from http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/i386/libmagick10/download
manually) and it works perfect!!

I noticed a little difference between the clients on my symbian device:

the 0.7.0 client asks after hitting on the found bluetooth computer (in my
case tt-laptop-0) for the midlet permission to use bluetooth.
When i don*t give the permission, the client founds no players - exactly
like the 0.8 client.

The 0.8 client doesen't ask for permission. So it may be a java midlet
permission problem. Symbian UIQ3 devices are very restrictive with that.

The fact that Remuco 0.7 works may be caused by the older Bluetooth stack
used by the Remuco debian packages or it may be related to the permission
problem you mentioned. In Remuco 0.7 there was a line in the client
descriptor file which requested a permission to use Bluetooth .. I removed
it because it caused an error on some Pocket PC devices. However, I
reinserted this line into the client binary and put a snapshot version at
http://remuco.sourceforge.net/tmp/remuco.jar . Could you please do one more
test with this client to see if the missing permission request in the
descriptor file was the error reason? That would be great ..

In case you have that time - to complete your test matrix that combines
various Remuco versions with various Ubuntu versions - you could install
Remuco 0.8 in Ubuntu Hardy (8.04) ;) . If it works with the M600i in Hardy
(which uses BlueZ 0.3), it is probably a Bluetooth stack error, somehow
related to BlueZ 0.4. Otherwise the problem is somewhere else .. :/

here are my test results:

1. Remuco 0.8.1 & Ubuntu 9.04 (RC):

I used the Client from http://remuco.sourceforge.net/tmp/remuco.jar 
This Client acts exactly like the original one. (It still doesen't ask für
permission to use Bluetooth).
After selection of the found bluetooth device it starts scanning for a
player adapter for a very short time.
"Bluetooth Error: Search for a Remuco service on the selected device failed."

2. Remuco 0.8.1 & Ubuntu 8.04:

I used the same client from http://remuco.sourceforge.net/tmp/remuco.jar
with the same result as described above.

In both cases i installed the rhythmbox player adapter.

I think i will use 0.7.2 again, because the old version works perfekt with
my hardware.

Ok (or not),  thanks for your extensive testing willingness!

Maybe I'll get access to an UIQ3 phone in the near future. Then I'll
continue to investigate this issue.

Hello,

I've downloaded and installed remuco 0.9.1 today. As clients I use both my
old SE K750i and the newer W950i, which uses Symbian UIQ3. So far, I've
seen no problems, both phones work well with the remuco client and
remuco-amarok on the pc.
