I don't recall the exact way to do it, but I am sure that Asciidoc has some way to handle the numbering automatically, which would help avoid these kinds of problems.

Yes, similar Russian files use the sectnums attribute. We can also turn on automatic sections numbering globally in the config.toml file:

   [markup.asciidocExt]
     [markup.asciidocExt.attributes]
        sectnums = "@"
