My understanding

I will try to provide some answers, to the extent of my knowledge.

· With regard to the APIs.

o There’s a JSON API in https://discodata.eea.europa.eu/ (see the WISE_BWD database)

o And there are map services in https://water.discomap.eea.europa.eu/arcgis/rest/services/BathingWater

· With regard to the license.

o By default, all the information published by the EEA in under a CC-BY license. That is also the case for the Bathing Water data.

· The only exception that I’m aware of are the WISE vocabularies (registries of identifiers) which are under https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

o The bathing waters are protected areas under WFD, so the vocabulary is http://dd.eionet.europa.eu/vocabulary/wise/WFDProtectedArea

o This will provide you a stable URI (e.g. http://dd.eionet.europa.eu/vocabulary/wise/WFDProtectedArea/euProtectedAreaCode.SE0110114000001601 ) and some relevant attributes. (but not the location, since that is not the purpose of the registry).

The following document may be useful, as it synthesizes a project similar to yours: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7f/WFD_data_for_Wikidata_%E2%80%93_final_report.pdf

With regard to eventual issues in the data itself (e.g. positional errors), I would suggest a direct contact with the relevant National Authorities.

The EEA collates the national deliveries into pan-European data sets, but neither edits nor modifies the data provided by the responsible National Authorities.

Hope this information can help you with your project.

Best regards and personal wishes of success in your cooperation with the wikidata project,

Fernanda Néry, PhD Data Management Expert
