I have a G1 and sending shifted characters or alt characters always works fine
for
me. What VNC server are you using?

I'm wondering if I have a corrupt install. Is there some remnant of code that
needs
to be deleted after install? I've rooted the phone so I can clean out what
needs to
be done. I've tried reinstalling both from the market and this side. It just
not
appear to work correctly. If I VNC from another desktop, everything goes
through
fine. I'm using TightVNCServer from the phone itself running inside of the
Debian
chroot.

Not a corrupt install--
I'm now seeing the same problem with shifted characters with the Linux TightVNC
server (not with special characters though, they seem to go fine). Clearly some
weird interaction between the way the phone is sending keystrokes and the way
that
server is interpreting keystrokes.
This might be something I can fix...

The shifted characters is what first started to have problems and then after a
couple
of hours, I couldn't send ALT characters either. I thought I was loosing my
mind as
I thought I had sent ALT characters as well in the beginning. But I attributed
this
to myself for staying up so late getting Debian working and that I was probably
not
remembering correctly. :)

I'm using the same configuration (TightVNC server on Debian chroot on the phone
itself) and, surprise, encounter the same problems. Shift+Key sends Ctrl+Key,
Alt+Key
sends Ctrl + the correct special character resolved by Alt.

I am using TightVNC 1.2.8. on Windows 2000 and 2003 servers, and I am having a
problem using the keyboard on the T-Mobile G2 with Android 2.2 and AndroidVNC
0.4.7 sending capitol letters, numbers or special characters via the shift and
alt keys. In my case, using the alt and shift keys has no effect on the output.
