Razor's input file extensions #41

@ramsdell had raised this question before but we haven't agreed on any file extensions yet. So far, we have two suggestions:

  1. .raz, which is the extension of the files generated by @ramsdell 's tool.
  2. .rzr, which is @dandougherty 's suggestion.

I personally prefer .raz just because it's easier to pronounce.

I don't like .raz that much. It wants to be pronounced as though it rhymes with "jazz". Whereas .rzr really leads one in the direction of "razor"

I considered .rzr, but googling told me it is the file extension for a compression utility.

I kind of like the "jazz" pronounciation.

I kind of like it too. @dandougherty , I thought you liked jazz!

I prefer .raz over .rzr, but both are hard to type (use the same hand / sometimes the same fingers).

What about RazorLogic Files? (.rl)

Nah. A key purpose of the file extension is to "promote" Razor, so I want it to be something that will induce people to pronounce---in their mind---"Razor when they see it or type it. "rl" doesn't pass that test. And in my mind that is the reason that rzr beats raz. I am willing to agree to raz if we learn that a lot of other people like it better somehow... You guys can poll the Brown folks to get more data :-)

The folks at Brown also prefer ".raz" over ".rzr", mainly because it's easier to pronounce. Let's use ".raz" for now but feel free to reopen this issue with new ideas.
