It's a profile picture formed by blobs to symbolize data, the missing "link" is separated from the main figure to express the dissemination of a person's presence online.

Thank you so much @sogen - I love the simple & elegant concept of the profile photo with the data dots & the missing 'link'!

Here are a few thoughts -

The layout of the first (white background) is my favourite!
I like that you've designed it so that the 'profile photo' and the text + 'link' could be used separately, I think that makes it really nicely modular
It took me a few moments at first to recognize that the 'profile photo' was a person (although I see it super clearly now) - might it be possible to play around with that a bit, to make it more obvious that it's a person/profile picture? Maybe making the blobs sharper or changing some of the angle slightly to see how that looks?
I like the color in the graphic & text in the 2nd option, but I'm not sure about the dark background. Might we be able to play around with a bit of color on a white background?
Would also be nice to experiment with other fonts for the text! I like the clean version you've chosen, especially the way it's laid out in the first (white background) and I think we should keep it simple (no cursive! :) ), but it'd be cool to see a couple more options to just see the differences.

I've also pinged a couple other designer friends, who may pop in with more ideas or suggestions along the way 😄

Thanks so much again! Really appreciate you taking the time to contribute, I can already feel the project taking on clearer shape with some design identity!

This is great! I love the concept.

Below are some comments. I hope they're helpful. Please understand that I don't have all the background or context, so I will let you and @samanthaburton filter.

Color
- I like the gray on white. Could be good to have a reversed white on black version for cases when that's useful.
- I'm not sure it needs color, but a spot of pink could work nicely on both regular and reversed versions.
Figure
- Consider making the nodes and connectors straight rather than tapered. As is, it feels a bit like melting wax. If you need more definition to give shape to the figure, more smaller nodes and connectors might help. Maybe, maybe not.
Type
- I would consider tightening the kerning a bit. "Whose" is an odd english word we don't see too often. Tighter kerning would help with recognition.
- You might try a type with serifs or slightly more humanistic touch, since this is about bringing people into the story about data.
Lockup
- If the text+link will be used sometimes without the figure, look closely at the weight of the nodes and connector relative to the weight of the typeface. Might need higher contrast or no contrast. Right now, it is close but not quite the same. If it won't be used separately, it matters a bit differently.

This is great. Lots of nit-picky comments, but honestly it's really great as is right now!

Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate your taking the time to lead on the logo :)

I prefer the sans serif fonts - the very first one, top left, is currently my favorite! I'm curious to see what the text looks like with a slightly lighter weight? I also liked the the wider spacing of the text you tried in the very first version, and wonder what it looks like in this iterations.

I really like the sharper/more rounded nodes and straight connectors! I do think that it looks a little crowded with more nodes though -- perhaps we can try keeping the updated node shapes & straight lines, but go back to closer to the number of nodes you had in the first mockup?

In terms of color, it's cool to see it with the pink! Could you many also play with a darker grey (eg the colour in your very first mockup), grey-scale, and/or dark palettes to see what that looks like?

The weight of the dots/lines in B are my favourite - my only question is how it might look if the image of the person was a little larger (eg keep the same # of dots/lines and weighting, but just make it a bit bigger)?

The font and text weight I like the best is B! What do you think?

Overall, I think we're super close! It'd also be great to see what the image & text look like separately, and perhaps also a version with a dark background?

I also liked the missing 'link' below the text in your very first iteration, what do you think about adding that back in?

Thanks very much again for all your work on this, I love the concept and I'm excited to have such a beautiful visual identity for the project!

And yes @DigitalDesignerOnline, I think we're going with pink as the accent colour - though I think keeping most of the site a clean, neutral white/grey with sparse use of the accent will help prevent it from getting overwhelming! Thanks so much.

Oh these are so great! Thank you! And thanks for remember the question mark, I'd forgotten it too :)

I think I prefer the sizing of the person vs text in B, especially when the text is under the person. For when the text is next to the person, I prefer the layout in A.

Would it be possible to change the weighting of the lines in the person/extra piece to more closely match the weight of the text? It feels a little too heavy in comparison right now.

Otherwise... I think we're super close to having a logo!! A million thanks again!!

I wrote a bit about why in this blog post if you're curious, and I'm also happy to chat if you have questions. Thank you SO much for all your time and energy, I so appreciate your contributions! I hope we have the chance to collaborate together again in the future.
