Various files API improvements #62

This change includes a few commits to the files subsystem that improves things a bit:

Fixes a bug in the exists proc that was inverting the boolean result
Fixes a bug in the write proc that failed when the write length was 0
Centralizes the result validation logic into two procs
Adds a new version of write that accepts a string
Adds unit tests for most of the procs here
Marks procs as discardable when they just return an error code
