@Bodge-IT Please provide as much information as you can when somethings not working, it reduces the number of assumptions I have to make and hopefully makes it easier to solve the issue.
I'd like the log including the command you ran. What version of docker-redmine are you running?
Here is what I see when I run a backup restore on 3.4.4-2
$ docker-compose run redmine app:backup:restore

Sorry @jcormier I do know better... just trying to juggle to many plates...
I'm not using docker-compose yet. I'm running on coreos userid for core user is 500 My logs output is:

repeats like that over and over
I'm connecting to the standard MYSQL docker here I'm running ver 5.6 now but was running 5.7, tried to go back to 5.6 incase that was causing a problem
Looks like its not even getting to the backup step, its still trying to start the container and connect to the redmine instance.
I'm not sure how compatible this docker is with the standard mysql container, never tried it. I've always used @sameersbn mysql or postgresql containers. I'm not sure what changes he's made to them. However he does list that mysql container as compatible in the Readme...
What version of the redmine docker are you running?
The latest version shows it should print "Could not connect to database server. Aborting..." when it gives up. https://github.com/sameersbn/docker-redmine/blob/master/assets/runtime/functions#L202
I'd recommend manually entering the container and seeing if you can connect to your mysql daemon that way. Maybe you'll find your referencing it by the wrong name or it prints some error message that will help...
Yes can connect to the mysql daemon as I have phpmyadmin container running too and I can connect to that through browser
Yes but your phpmyadmin is in a separate container. We want to figure out why the redmine-docker container can't connect.
Goptchya:
mysql> status

mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.6.39, for Linux (x86_64) using EditLine wrapper
Connection id: 1

Current pager: stdout

Using delimiter: ;

Db characterset: utf8mb4
Client characterset: latin1
Conn. characterset: latin1
UNIX socket: /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
Uptime: 3 min 26 sec
Alright so what I would do is add set -x
to the top of the functions file and manually try to run the redmine_configure_database() function to see what commands are getting called and were it fails.
and to do that...I need to fork this? Make the change and pull my fork?
No, you could manually log in and make the change and run it from there.
Or grab a copy of the functions file, modify it, and then mount the file from your host to the location in the container.
volumes:
- ./functions:/etc/docker-redmine/runtime/functions
oh...that's almost easy! Thanks so much for your time @jcormier
No indication of failing that I can see, just loops on
- mysqladmin -h mysql -P 3306 -u myuser -pmypass status ++ expr 23 - 1
- timeout=22
- [[ 22 -eq 0 ]]
- echo -n . .+ sleep 1 This counter should tick down each iteration until it reaches 0. Is it not counting down?
Again include your log with your conclusions because otherwise, I don't know how to help. Seems like you posted some things but then deleted them?
mysql > status mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.6.39, for Linux (x86_64) using EditLine wrapper When you ran this mysql command, what ip address or hostname did you use to connect?
@jcormier here's all the log I could get system.log
I accessed the mysql cli with localhost
@jcormier here's all the log I could get
Hmm what version of the container are you running?
+ [[ 1 -eq 0 ]]
+ echo -n .
.+ sleep 1
+ mysqladmin -h mysql -P 3306 -u myuser -pmypass status
++ expr 1 - 1
+ timeout=0
++ source /etc/docker-redmine/runtime/env-defaults
Odd that we don't see a [[ 0 -eq 0 ]]
line, it just skips directly to rerunning the script
I accessed the mysql cli with localhost
This was from inside the redmine-docker container? How can you access the mysql database using localhost?
Regardless if localhost works, then you should change DB_HOST=mysql
to DB_HOST=localhost
Ah just noticed this is running 3.4.3 not 3.4.4 was trying everything I could
Access mysql from inside container with this:
mysql -h localhost -u myuser -p redmine Password: myspass
Trying run again with latest tag
Okay so try setting DB_HOST to localhost
OK run with :latest system.log
OK run with :latest
Yeah same problem. Try setting DB_HOST to localhost
Tried, still looping, I'm using this in redmine run: --link=mysql:mysql My mysql container is called 'mysql' using tag 5.6
Okay, I'm not sure what you're doing wrong. And I've no way to reproduce what you're trying to do on my side.
Verified that if the DB_HOST is wrong or it can't contact the MySQL server then the container will exit without printing an error message. redmine_wrong_mysql_log.txt
@jcormier In the end I found some update issues with the database. Trashed it and started again with a 5.7 dump I had. System now starts, still not recovered from a backup but my containers are running.
Next issue is I cannot get http access to redmine even though it's up.
Thanks so much for the time you have taken to try and help me through this issue.
I have 3 backups I've tried, each one fails at configuring database, no error just a string of dots and then kicked back to prompt
anything I can try, pretty desperate to get redmine backup?
