What hardware?

Please bring back progressive decoding. It's annoying to wait a couple of
seconds for the image to show, but when it's revealed line by line (like in the
previous Xee) at least you could get the idea which image it is and skip to the
next one if needed.

Unfortunately, it is not returning. Many other things would have to be
sacrificed to get it working. It barely worked at all in Xee 2, and was a huge
effort to keep going, and prevented many other things.

I have just few days ago purchased full version of the Xee3 (had the Xee
before) and the speed of browsing through a directory is simply awful. I am
browsing through 10Mpix, 4MB each photos on a MacBook (2008) with 8GB RAM and
brand new SSD. And it takes about 1-2 seconds to load an image. Even Preview is
faster than that.

For hardware that old, you may be better off with Xee 2. Xee 3 does depend on
having a pretty good GPU.

I'm on a current year high-end macbook pro, and Xee 3.3 also loads images very
slowly for me. Xee2 was very fast for me.
My macbook has a GeForce GT 650M. I saw other posts saying that in Xee3.0.2,
there were issues with this GPU. Perhaps the issues have cropped back in?
I downloaded an old version of Xee3.0 (17), and it loads images very fast.
Anything hints on things i can do to make 3.3 faster?
Thanks!

Hmm, that's interesting. Should be looked into closer, but unfortunately I
don't have a machine to do it on...

Since I purchased the Xee3.3 on the app store but am no longer using it due to
the performance issues, could you give me a download link (or activation code)
for Xee 3.0 instead?
Love the app, but the latest version just isn't useable..
thanks-

Xee3 is very slow on MBP Mid'09 (GF9400/GF9600). Previous free versions was
significantly faster. I don't understand which features require to sacrifice
performance so much. What was improved for the price of this performance drop?
Do we really need such "improvements"?

I agree completely (and is my last holdout for upgrading). If this is not
possible, suggestion: an option to grant Xee additional memory usage. Have it
look ahead in the image sequence and pre-render upcoming images, as well as
maintain a few already seen.

Issue 405 has been merged into this issue.

I also find it a bit slow to load first time, Preview is much quicker so when
I'm just trying to check a few images quickly I sometimes end up using Preview
instead which is a shame. I'm using a top of the scale iMac with 24GB RAM and
i7 processor and also upgrades the graphics card so don't think hardware is a
problem.

I have a 2013 15" retina MacBook Pro with a dedicated GPU, and no matter which
GPU I use (although 3.3 forces dedicated), all images are very slow to load.
This is one of the best machines Apple makes right now, and Xee 2 is much much
faster on the same hardware loading images.
I can browse images on a network share, locally, doesn't seem to matter -
there's a half to two second delay loading the next image, which just feels
nasty.
I am happy to dump logs, test builds, whatever it takes. I love Xee and all of
its features, but I'm tearing my hair out.

I agree completely. I loved Xee2, but it doesn't have retina support, and it
doesn't automatically rotate images. It's mostly the rotation I'm after, but
Xee3.3 has slow loading, and an annoying gray screen between each image. I'd
rather see the previous image for a few seconds while it's loading.
But it really should be much faster. Xee2 was so fast, what happened?
I couldn't find an alternative to quickly view images, and easily move them to
folders (which is awesome in Xee).

There are two fast image viewers: LilyView and ArcSoft Photo+
Xee developer don't hear users of his app.

I hear quite well, thank you very much. it's just that loading is not actually
slow on most machines, and I can not easily reproduce the problems where it is
extremely slow on my available machines, and this whole issue is extremely
complicated.
I've already spent money on technical support from Apple to work out some of
these issues, but they were not much help either, this is a very mysterious
problem. If anyone thinks they have the resources to figure it out, I can
arrange for them to have a look at the code too.
