I've seen that you decided to exclude text reflow.  I understand what you mean 
about keeping what the author intended.  However, i would like to point you 
that for scientific papers, this isn't the case, since the layout has been 
imposed to a 2 column by historical reasons. 

Also, i see that mupdf is used by you.  Mupdf app has a fantastic reflow 
functionality, but it lacks annotation, background adjustment, night mode and a 
lot of the functionality that ebookdroid has.

This won't change the goal of your app.  All the current functionality for 
dealing with static pages is wonderful for all of those pdfs from scanned 
documents. Your application greatly reduces the "pain" of dealing with those 
documents.

 You can use "zoom to column" to solve multicolumns issue. Use with it single page view mode.
