Adding it to AUR? #12

We have a custom Manjaro distribution https://www.tromjaro.com and we want to ship with this DAT feature integrated into Firefox. It would help a lot if there was an AUR package for it. We are decentralizing our websites via DAT and want to ship Firefox + DAT as default. Would you be interested to help us do that? Cheers!

Hi @tiotrom,

This sounds great. You may want to have a look at dat-webext as an alternative, which provides a more native-like dat support in Firefox using privileged APIs. This requires the extension to be bundled with the firefox package, but as a distro maintainer that shouldn't be so difficult for you to do.

Alternatively, if you want to continue with the dat-fox version, if you could point out the requirements for an AUR package (or even better, provide a PR to build it), and I'll be happy to look into it.

We will get back to this very soon. I wanted to quickly mention that I looked into that alternative but I see that

"Run with web-ext (requires Firefox Developer Edition or Firefox Nightly installed)"

We tested dat-fox-helper and so far works great! We love it. We added to or list here https://gitlab.com/tromsite/tromjaro/iso-profiles/issues/17 and we'll get back to you in the following days.

It works with all recent versions of Firefox. These instructions are for developing the extension. To include the extension with a release version of Firefox, it has to be bundled at compile time. If you are building Firefox from source for your distro it could be included.

We finally added it to AUR https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dat-fox-helper-git/ and we use it as default for Firefox with our TROMjaro Linxu distribution https://www.tromjaro.com
