Cleaning code / removing warnings

These all seem like reasonable changes to me (albeit rather extensive).

Other thoughts on potential improvements for the future:

• I tend to favor properties over ivars
• I find the monolithic file with multiple classes awkward to work with

I agree, with both these points. A bit slammed at the moment so was concerned about unintended behaviour.

Yeah, would love to split it out next, also need to fix the logging system.
