Not Generating Thumbnails v 1.8.2 on WP 3.2.1

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Upload image (s), thumbnails not generated; or
2. Select images from Manage Gallery, bulk action rebuild thumbnails, apply

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect thumbnails to be generated on upload, failing that expect to be able to 
generate via bulk actions.
Actual result is that progress bar advances as thumbnails APPEAR to be built, 
the progress bar disappears from window and only Generating Thumbnails (or 
whatever actual verbiage is) appears in title area of popup box, which even if 
left for extended time does not go away.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.8.2

Please provide any additional information below.
Similar result from resizing via bulk actions...  Progress indicator, then only 
popup box with title, never goes away.

Exactly the same problem here. What should we do?

Already tried to increase memory limit, but it seems that is not the problem.

I am experiencing the same issue as well - new WordPress 3.2.1 install with new 
1.8.2 install.  Tried this on two separate servers.
