lib/generators/bulkrax/templates/app/assets/images/bulkrax/removed.png uses a transparent background. If it is later turned into a thumbnail in JPEG format, the transparency is replaced with a solid color -- by default, black, rendering the black "removed" text invisible. Explicitly setting a white background would avoid this.
Also, I haven't confirmed whether this issue is still live or if we skipped something awhile back, but our project was missing this image file while including everything else from the install generator, so it's possible there's an issue there?
