Diagram selections are currently not connected to the rest of the selections because we need to either make the diagram element ids match, or create a map between the two.
The first option is preferred, but need help from the ipyelk developers to find the best approach to do that.
Alternative two is an option, but would add considerable more machinery to the problem.
