Portable apps, in general can't be run in the sandbox, because the sandbox virtualizes files, but the portable app wrapper also does the same hooks.
Chrome Portable and Brave Portable work just fine in Sandboxie. I've been using them for years that way. Since 5.55.7 I just can't update them anymore.
Chrome and Brave Portable work just fine in Sandboxie. I've been using them for years that way. Since 5.55.7 I just can't update them anymore. Both portapps brave portable and a photoshop portable[using spoon] give errors, when running hardened. Installing brave to the sandbox, or running, brave unwrapped [.\app\brave.exe] however works fine. The photoshop wrapped doesn't work as it's a Virtual Machine itself.
I did revert all the way back to 5.53.3. It also occurred there. I've only got Windows Defender running.
The only big change I made was encrypting the drive with bitlocker. Maybe a logfile helps? Error 183 seems to be coming from Windows itself.
It looks suspicious with Ȉ햐Ȃ怰Ȃ纀ȁ徨ȂȈ횀Ȃ훸Ȃ悸Ȃ窀ȁ흰Ȃ
and then RestartManager complaining about a critical process in the install.log. Same version as OP, Sandboxie Classic x64 5.55.8.
Sandboxie did complain about a copy limit during install so it was increased to CopyLimitKb=170276
as chrome.dll is 166MB in size. Though no mention of chrome.dll in the log and it does not exist in the sandbox.
Tried a 2nd install with similar results though got y햐s怰s纀r徨sy횀s훸s悸s窀r흰s慀sЀr
and again with critical process complaints from RestartManager. I cannot confirm if bad behaviour from the installer itself.
Since I am not using bitlocker, that cannot be the cause of the issue.
I've sent the file to VirusTotal: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file-analysis/ZDA5NWY0NWE3ZjI1M2UwMDQ1OWJkNGRjOTBjZTZhOGY6MTY0MzE4MjA4MQ==
It is the InstallDelete section of the setup that causes the error.
If these entries are commented, then the install will finish normally. I tried with check parameters using msgboxes, select Yes each time and setup fails. Select No each time and setup succeeds.
Inno Setup is possibly finding the external files and dirs after removal and then throws an error.
Nothing very special happening with this install so would expect any Inno Setup install to fail with an InstallDelete section.
I'm always running Brave Portable in a sandbox. https://github.com/portapps/brave-portable/releases/download/1.34.80-80/brave-portable-win64-1.34.80-80-setup.exe This also goes for installing Brave Portable updates. I'd always run the installer in Sandboxie as well and then drag the new files out of the sandbox afterwards.
Since Sandboxie Classic 5.55.7 and 5.55.8, the upgrade installation fails with the following error report:
Somehow the installer isn't able to write if a file already exists when run in Sandboxie. This prevents me from upgrading my sandboxed Brave Portable.
