Crash when installing Microsoft Office 2021 Pro Plus #1675

What happened?

I attempted to install microsoft office 2021 inside Sandboxie plus and it failed. I just wanted to try out the new office version. There are 3 error popups attached. Please find a fix to make it work. Awaiting for a solution. Thanks

To Reproduce

  1. Download retail file from: https://officecdn.microsoft.com/db/492350F6-3A01-4F97-B9C0-C7C6DDF67D60/media/en-US/ProPlus2021Retail.img
  2. Mount the img file and install in Sandboxie
  3. All settings were at default
  4. Installation will crash after a few seconds

Expected behavior

3 error popup windows and SBIE messages

What is your Windows edition and version?

Windows 10 Pro 21H2 with latest updates

In which Windows account you have this problem?

I use the built-in Administrator account.

Please mention any installed security software

No additional security software installed, only default clean OS

What version of Sandboxie are you running?

1.0.13 x64

Is it a regression?

In which sandbox type you have this problem?

In a Standard isolation sandbox (yellow sandbox icon).

Is the sandboxed program also installed outside the sandbox?

No, it is not installed in the real system.

Can you reproduce this problem on an empty sandbox?

I can confirm it also on an empty sandbox.

Did you previously enable some security policy settings outside Sandboxie?

I only enabled "Controlled folder access" in Windows Defender.

I also confirm that it reproduces, no matter what templates I choose or w/o.

I can only replicate this issue when using security hardened sandboxes (drop rights enabled). Otherwise the installation does succeed inside a standard sandbox with MSI exceptions and the click-to-run template enabled (although I still receive notifications about NtRenameKey, schtasks.exe, and BITS not being implemented). However, trying to sign in or create a Microsoft account during the first run of any office program causes it to freeze.

I can confirm the issue as reported in the first post, it seems specific to Office 2021 and not other versions (so far).

I experienced this too. Any chance you found a way to make the Microsoft sign-in work?
