Thanks for getting this rolling, Trey.
I also wonder if this is the right place to include some of the other "don't be a jerk" style things from e.g. the hacker school social rules?
@kball I would like to see this document become a reference for both encouraged and discouraged behavior. I'm afraid documents with a predominantly negative tone might be overlooked. I think we should focus on adding hacker school-style social rules after we've adopted an initial code of conduct.
@treyhunner sounds good to me
+1 on the thanks to @treyhunner for getting the ball rolling on this.
My only worry is that it might be a lot of content for people to opt into reading and that we could cover a wider range of unacceptable behavior with more general statements in a lot of cases versus calling out specific behavior. At the end of the day it's going to be a judgement call on our part and not a legally binding contract. That said, I've been constantly amazed by how little common sense some people seem to maintain, so calling out specifics could have value.
I definitely agree that once we settle on the harassment specifics we should couple this with more positive suggestions about ways to act to foster a healthy community and put those first.
Updated somewhat based on PR feedback
LGTM.
Let's discuss this.
