Goldendict not finding dictionary files. #7

Venetia writes: " I installed the paid for version of GoldenDict (which is definitely worth it - works so much better) and uninstalled the free version ( colordict). Then I used the updater app which said it had downloaded all dictionary files but once finished the 'done' button is inactive and can't be pressed, so it never seems to complete and the dictionaries never appear in the GoldenDict app. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but any suggestions gratefully welcomed. "

You can confirm that by installing a file manager such as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander , browsing to the dictdata folder under your sdcard directory (This is /sdcard/dictdata in my devices).

Regarding not finding dictionaries within stardict, try:

*‌ Please ensure that "Other programs" is checked. Then reindex dictionaries.

Thanks. I have now got the dictionary files into GoldenDict and they appear in the manage dictionaries section. However when I search for a term results from only 4 dictionaries (the same ones I had installed much earlier I think, before using the updater app) appear, despite there being about ten dictionaries listed in the manage dictionaries section. I have tried shifting dictionaries up and re indexing but still get the same result.

Which term did you search for? Not all terms appear in all dictionaries...

I have tried a variety of terms, some of which should definitely appear in dictionaries like the amarakosha. I also find that re ordering the dictionaries (making mW top of the list for instance) in the manage dictionaries section doesn't seem to reflect in the search results. Only thing I can think of is that perhaps the other dictionaries only accept search terms in devanagari. I am searching in roman as don't have facility yet to input devanagari on my tablet.

Can you give me an example? I suspect that the following is the problem: You search for a term such as hari (typed in english alphabet), you will not see the amarakosha entry that you would were you to type हरि . You can look at the dictionaries installed here: https://github.com/vvasuki/stardict-sanskrit/tree/master/ under the folders en-head and sa-head.

Likely obsolete issue.
