AE headwords - English v. British spelling #188

In reviewing the corrections @sanskritisampada has been making to AE, the headword outmanoeuvre came up. That spelling looked odd, and Google search pointed out outmanoeuvre verb [ T ] UK US outmaneuver ....

That AE spelling is not as common as outmaneuver so from the view of searching it would be good to have the more common spelling lead to this entry in AE.

The 'alternate headword' technique (once we convert AE to meta-line format after Sampada's work is completed) could handle this additional spelling. We might want to use a classification phrase different from 'alt', which now refers to alternates that a dictionary's author mentions.

I'm not sure how to identify other words needing alternate modern spellings. But it should be possible to find them somehow.

Maybe the approach can be

The words absent in pyenchant en_US and en_GB will be flagged for manual examination. They are the oddities. Mainly old spellings or archaic words as far as my experience goes of AE.

Agree.

Dhaval has a list of 1400 words, so we do not need to invent anything.

What about a list of words present in en_GB but NOT in en_US? (like maybe outmanoeuvre )

We don't know for sure what English dictionary or dictionaries Apte used (do we?). But it might have been Webster's 1828.

Or English extracted from Wilson 1832 :100:, so it must be around that time.
