SCH corrections from faultfinder list #51

Closed funderburkjim closed 9 years ago

funderburkjim commented 9 years ago

This issue is devoted corrections to headwords from the SCH dictionary.

The starting list contains 180 headwords, and was obtained from AllvsMW.txt in SanskritSpellCheck as all lines matching the regular expression:

:SCH$

There are no duplicates, and no r-x-x words. After listing headword corrections, a list of the remaining headwords (those not requiring correction) from this list will be shown.

Re '14 case interesting as well ...'

Many useful observations. Reminds me of the variant forms in MW indicated by abbreviations such as w.r. (wrong reading), v.l. (varia lectio).

Re 17 kupyADyakza - कुप्याध्यक्ष - SCH 18 kupyopajIvin - कुप्योपजीविन् - SCH These are spelled in agreement with scan. The digitization order is wrong>

The two words are first two words on next page 393.

image

The last three words on page 392 are (kupyagfha, kumudasuhfd, kumpaka)

But in the digitization, the ordering is

392-3:kupyagfha:28530,28530
392-3:kupyADyakza:28531,28531
392-3:kupyopajIvin:28532,28532
392-3:kuBrAmi:28533,28533
392-3:kumArI:28534,28534
392-3:kumudasuhfd:28535,28535
392-3:kumpaka:28536,28536
393-1:kumBakukzika:28537,28537

Moving lines 28535 and 28536 after 28530 should get digitization word order to agree with text.

re 'Also the page linked is 207a whereas it actually is on 207.'

1 - The 'a' indicates (in this case) that the page is broken into multiple parts (due to beginning of a new letter), and that this is the 2nd part.

2 - The link to it under daksiRottara lands on page 206, rather than 207 - so this is a bug somewhere in the web display. (it's not ignoring the 'a' in '207a' when the scanned image is served).

3 - Corrected web/webtc/disp_servepdf.php so this bug fixed.

Re 24 dOScityya display.

The display you mention is of key2. Now, key2 is IAST in the AS coding. So, if key2 is displayed as in the text, it will be displayed as IAST, key2 in AS coding is 'daus4cittya', and it should display in IAST as 'dauścittya' . The error was in the 'O' of the display.
So, there was a bug. The bug was in make_xml.py, which makes the xml file used for the display.
The bug has been fixed so dauścittya is displayed.

Glad you caught this problem.

re 44 sidD - सिद्ध् I think we should leave sidD, based on the indentation.

I noticed that in the digitization, the record for sidD is wrongly place after sitetararatna (first word on page 365 scan). It should be moved to after sidDi.

SAl is probably a more useful key1 than SAlate exactly. Jim, PWK and PWG - there is no bigger Sanskrit dictionary in the world and until year 3640 will not be (calculations here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/nagari/-y1_CU3LwZ4). SCH is its essential part. The work could speed up the Poona dictinary as well, that is what I believe. So what can I do to change the not personally very interested in SCH approach? 'Zudringlichkeit' google translates to 'intrusiveness' - right. Incidentally, since MW has saMtfRRa, I think the spelling of a-saMtfRRa in SCH is ok. is a so so argument. SCH uses MW as one of it's sources. So a duplicated mistake can be no better than a unique one. If it's a mistake.

I went through all the 'ok' list, and found no discrepancies with scan spelling.

Only two things noticed were that dOgDikasasya and dOScittya (and some others) are misplaced in the digitization. Will correct this placement.
