Based just on this first group of 5, maybe the large number of cases is not an indication of errors, but rather of different conventions. For instance, cases 4/5 suggest that BUR cites his roots by the first person singular present tense.
This observation regarding root citations suggests that the brute-force approach thus begun for dealing with the 628 cases is not required.
A better approach will be to identify the cases which are inflected verb forms, note them as such, and then see what cases remain.
One of the inflected form displays can be used for this identification .... Will carry through this approach tomorrow.
So it's not as dirty, it's all about root citations, good news. Bad news - there is no single accepted way of quoting roots and BHS might be the closest to BUR in this approach.
Using a program related to one of the inflected form displays at Cologne website, all the cases were examined.
By this method, 281 cases were identified as verb forms; see the list here
All the remaining forms were checked as atomic verb forms using Gerard Huet's site. This found another 10 cases:
uqQi:096,1: { imp. [2] ac. sg. 2 }[vaś] [vaS]
citrIye:246,2: { pr. md. sg. 1 }[citra]

SoSucye:657,2: { int. pr. [vn.] md. sg. 1 }[śuc_1] [Suc]
It is reasonable to consider all these 291 cases to be NO CHANGE cases, requiring no further investigation for spelling error.
The remaining 337 cases (337 = 628 - 291) require the brute force examination. A preliminary glance at the list suggests that many of these 337 are also verb forms; when possible I will identify as such, and maybe a Sanskrit expert such as Dhaval can identify the form and underlying root for these.
The following comments consider the first 100 of these 337 cases.

@gasyoun re' Can we add not just NO CHANGE but something verb-al to the markup as well?'
As you can see, "NO CHANGE verb
something " is the markup convention for those in this list that
seem to be verb forms of some kind.
Not all verb forms in Burnouf are in this list - just the ones that faultfinder identified. For instance, 'caNkramye' is a verb form, but is not in this faultfinder list.
A large number (628) of distinct cases were found by faultfinder for the headwords of BUR (Burnouf) Sanskrit-French Dictionary).
These comprise headwords of BUR that
Probably the large number is related to the fact that this digitization was done in 2008.
The comments are generated by program, and contain links to the Cologne displays and scans for each case. [Note: For cases where the headword is wrong, and after the correction is made, then the link to the Cologne display will likely fail (since it is based on the old, incorrect spelling)].
The cases are listed in page order, which should facilitate examination of the cases.
This part 1 contains cases 1-100.
