This issue prompted by comment :

it's about time in 2019 to have dhatus with upasarga not only in MW, but PWG as well.

Take 'viS' (slp1) as example.

First - the prefixed verbs for viS in PWG have to be identified -- the first few are

and many more. Its a separate preliminary task to find all these. This task is non-trivial, but let's pretend we have all of the prefixed verbs in PWG under viS.

Exactly how should these be used?

The 'alternate headword' solution

The only solution thus far proposed is to treat all of these prefixed verbs similar to the way alternate headword spellings are treated. Take the AP90 dictionary as an example where we have implemented alternate headword access. An example is 'agatIka':

If we did the same for prefixed verbs, then there would be many (maybe 50-100) duplications of the PWG 'viS' entry, one for each prefixed verb. If a PWG search were made for 'aDiviS', then the user would see the entire 'viS' entry, along with a little message at the top analogous to the underlined form in the ap90 example. It would be up to the user to search through the (long) viS entry to find the information related to 'aDiviS'.

And, in the list display, there would be (in the left panel)

So this is one solution. To me, it seems clunky.

What are other solutions?

Sure, but let's try to learn from what's been done in the past. We have 10500 such sopasarga entries from MW (https://yadi.sk/i/G-dUimKVLDUhDA) and 3347 lines of Whitney Roots (http://yadi.sk/d/y9o_p8-lFvWbp).

To me, it seems clunky.

Better to see 100 prefixes (and there never are, see Whitney - only a few, including combinations of two, up to 20, rarely more) than to think (because they are not in search), that PWG left them out.

(agatīka is an alternate of agatika.)

It is not obvious, that this is a web hint and not part of printed book. A popup or rather background color will do.
