Epox P55 VA cannot install Win98SE failure. #166

Open KoghaandSooga opened 2 years ago

When attempting to install Windows 98 Second Edition OEM from Win World it gets as far as the setup screen before saying 'An Error Occured while reading or writing to the drive'

This occurs when installing normal by switching the boot order to CD and booting from the OEM CD.

Windows 10 host and Windows 98 SE Guest on Socket 7 Epox P55 motherboard which I know worked before because I remembered it's the only way to play Mental Math games without any issues. Something very funny is going on with computers since 2020.

Microsoft had a bad update a few days ago and PCEM is a big mess now with some things working and others aren't.

Hopefully the devs can update PCEM to deal with the new mess. I think if people on Windows 10 were to redo their OS's on PCEM they would find it's not as easy as it was before. I'm going to wait till PCV18 before I bother again. Damn I wish I didn't have it on my C drive unlike the rest of my emulators. I was out of it and didn't think to save the config though I bet I probably would have weird glitches.

Rant: I have a sinus infection and so does Mom: the doctors finally after being a-holes about it got me and Mom something for it. Until the new 'modern' healthcare I used to get sinus medicine every year no problem and since 2015 they don't do it unless your literally almost on death's door so I've had to suffer this for years till it got me really bad. Socialized healthcare sucks. I miss the old days you were given a lot more attention! 30 mins was the norm and you were given the full checkup. Now your lucky to get 10 mins to a visit and they can only see you for one thing ata time only. Rant over:

I’m about to be put on Augmenton (I don’t know how to spell it) so it will be a week or so. I don’t want to screw up anymore My hands are very shaky right now. While it’s like a stab in the heart at least my other stuff is kept safe. I was just foolish with this one.

We used PCEM a lot to run Parson’s Bible software which won’t run on modern OS but I could likely get it to work on the laptop Mom has with XP on it. We got it on Amazon a year or so ago just in case this kind of crap ever happened by MS. It NEVER goes online. I think it must have some sort of graphics board as there is a broken NIVIDA control panel and one of my games (New Adventures Of The Time Machine) does say YES to 3D Acceleration. I got that to work by putting in a modern patch replacing TimeQuake.Exe with a newer one.

On VM you can’t get a big enough picture to read the bible program from a distance so I was using PCEM a lot. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I’ll let you know how it goes when I go after the other end of the medicine.

The other end of these medcines always wipes both of us out. I also have an eye doctor appointment at Costco Wednesday. First since pre Covid. Trying to get it in before the medicine really kills me.

I'm on medicine now for a week or so but as for your question about me posting on PCEM. My username is Sooga on the PCEM forum. I forgot I made an account a while ago and logged in. I posted for help about CDA Audio and I'll fiddle with it again when I feel better in a week or so. The medicine is already starting to drain my head issues and flush the nasty stuff out.

As for the issue I started with on this thread I finally got this to work by using a boot disc as others I can just go off the CDROM if I change the order in the bios: This one is particularly picky and won't let me do that: I mean you can do it but it won't work: I just get an error saying it can't write to the disc.

I will keep this open until you reply to me as I answered your question about posting on PCEM and want to be sure you got the memo. Should I post a screenshot of the issue also before I close this of both the error and what it looks like now? Should I make another thread about just the screenshots or should I post the screenshot on this one when I mess with it again to reproduce the error?

I am going shopping later today been a long time since so I won't have energy to mess with the bios today but I could try again tomorrow to show the error since nothing is happening schedule wise.

OK, I'll send you a private message there instead of opening a new thread.

@michael-manley I've managed to install Win 98 OEM on that board in PCem. The OP has been posting a lot of issues here and on the forum that are not caused by PCem.

unreal9010 commented 2 years ago

The OP even goes as far as to post the links where software (about which the issues are being opened) was illegally obtained. I would suggest to close this issue since it has nothing to do with PCem.
