Extreme Assault game CD audio tracks not played #217

Open MX9000 opened 1 year ago

Describe the bug I tested several cue/bin images but only MIDI music works. With the same images the audio tracks plays in DOSbox-X. I also tried changing the audio card (SB 16 or SB AWE32), the CD-ROM drive model and speed.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Create a Pentium machine
  2. Choose a CD-ROM drive
  3. Install the game
  4. Try the CD music in Sound Options

Expected behavior You should hear the music

Emulator configuration See the cfg file attached (guest OS MS-DOS 6.22): Pentium MMX Voodoo.zip

Host machine

Currently, there is a bug in PCem CDDA emulation that makes CD audio in certain DOS games (e.g. Extreme Assault, Screamer 2 and Screamer Rally) more or less inaudible regardless of which sound card or CD drive model you select to emulate. CD Audio can actually be heard, however, you need to push the volume to an extremely high level to become only barely audible. What happens next is that all Audio CDs or games with CD audio tracks will become just as barely audible (or inaudible at moderate volume settings - increasing sound gain doesn't help, btw) until the next virtual machine reboot.
