The Y453F attached to the JN.1.23 system provides a great ACE2 gain, but this gain also makes the ACE2 binding value too high, resulting in excessive viscosity. The appearance of R346T+F456V on this variant may be a turning point.

Orf1b:D54N was the defining of EG.5.1.1 and all HK* sublineages

It is still circulating despite very slow (5 seqs now, 4 in US and 1 in Brazil).
