Feature request: Themes and theme SDK - Namely, layout Palm Pre #32

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

I'd love for this app to have the ability to be easily themed with
downloads from Cydia. I'm sure a number of people in the cydia community
would jump right into theming Kirikae if the infrastructure were in place.

Personally, I would love to see Kirikae show running applications as cards,
like the Palm Pre does. Each running application would be represented by a
screenshot taken when it was last the current application (hence, it
wouldn't be live but it would be more useful than an icon or name). The
current application could then have a thick outline around it to indicate
it being as such, other cards/apps wouldn't.

Favorites would be the only button along the bottom of the screen. I imagine it
looking and working like the Google Android Apps launcher. Once
pressed it would look very much like a typical iPhone home screen but
populated by your favorite apps.

Sliding up/flicking cards off the top of the screen to close running apps
would be cool but a long press would also work great. After a long press
the card could dim and a close/quit button would appear along with a cancel
button.

I am considering adding an option to change the background/text color used in
the
cells; other than that, there really isn't anything to theme.

As for the Pre-like task switcher, this is a repeat request. As I mentioned
before,
others are already working on something like this; I will leave it to them.

Thanks,

Great to hear that someone is already working on it. Do you know of a project
page
that I con follow to track the development progress?

Multiple parties were working on such extensions; however, I have not heard any
details in a couple of months, and know of no sites with such details. Sorry.

Well I had been working on such a Palm-Pre task switcher on iPhone 2.2, and
after
gaizin's email I decided to return to it this weekend:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1H2L3c2E8U

Still a lot of to do's, like taking the screenshot (should be easy enough) and
do a
slide-up animation to kill app (this looks like it'll be frustrating), but
right now
it's sleeping time.

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for. You have a great start already; I
can't wait to see what it
looks like a few months from now. I don't program but I'd you need any help
with graphics I'm your guy!

Well, the background, text/font/color and size can be customized? We can take a
look
at SBSettings-themeing. It would be cool if we could theme it so it would look
like
the Kirikae popup would look like it's floating over the Springboard, and not
like
its own whole screen. Much like SBSettings and GriP.

What do you think? A mockup would make it easier to understand what i'm trying
to
say, but i do not have Photoshop.

Here's an image of GRiP's messagelog. http://img20.yfrog.com/i/xus.jpg/

Imagine that the backgrounded applications are located on this popup. Looks
better
then the current one no?

@mossefinnshipping:

While I agree that appearance is important, I'm more concerned with
functionality. If
I spend all of my time working on adding support for themes and such (which
would
require a bit of work to get *just* right), I wouldn't have time to work on the
functional bits (or on other extensions).

That said, I have thought about a few things (such as using an image as the
background for the Kirikae table). However, that is not something I would be
able to
work on anytime soon.

Now that Palm-Pre mimicking task switchers have become available (multifl0w and
soon
ProSwitcher), I feel that this is no longer an issue. People that want such
functionality are suggested to try these other extensions.

Closing this issue report.
