URGENT: Removes the unused try statement that broke the last version #316

This is pretty embarrassing: I made a very careless last-minute change to my code before submitting a153594, which neither of us caught, and managed to break the whole package :( This fixes that issue - everything seems to be up and running, for real this time.

I apologize for the inconvenience - I should have tested better before submitting.

Thanks, just pushed up to PyPi (merged last night from my phone...I need to set up CI here!) :)
