ENH: add the default operator to the data source settings #146

This PR fixes #143.

@slacAWallace Could you check that you can set the default operator as you expected?

@klauer @tangkong Is there any progress on this? Can I merge this PR for now? I'm considering releasing v1.5.1 with this fix. I'll reopen the issue if there're any problems.

Sorry for the late follow-up, @sasaki77. I've been out on vacation and now @tangkong is out as well!

I think that if your internal testing shows this works, then let's move forward and merge this. We'll open an issue and let you know if we run into problems. Thanks again for addressing this.
