Improve logging

Goal

Have log statements at the correct log level throughout the code so the user can know what's happening at a time.

Task

• integrate winston.js as a logging framework
  • logger can be accessed and adjusted by the users
  • implementing MDC should be considered
• add log statements at the correct log level throughout the code
