What is the behaviour you observe? The game has no sound, at any points. This is the case in two separate Sega Saturns, both of which can play the game normally with no issues.

What is the behaviour you expect? The game first makes noise after the TAKARA logo, at the intro cutscene. There should be a song playing, with some sound effects, but nothing plays instead.

Thanks for the report. Which firmware and menu versions are you using?

Firmware is on 159 and Menu is on 66! So, the most recent ones, as of today.

I was able to repro this... sort of, but also it works for me in a specific scenario. I'm on a different FW/MNU though. More details below:

I reproduced this twice so it seems like something is probably up here. My hash matches Lizstar's.

Ooh, can confirm, after following what lordviceroy said, mine DOES start to produce sound too. Though what's confusing to me is that, I remember it freezing once while pressing start on the intro FMV. And I just turned it off, I didn't reset. But it only did that once for me during my testing earlier, so I didn't really think it worth mentioning. I was easily able to get from the FMV intro to the game, with no freezing.

Now whenever I test it it freezes like that lol I have no idea what's goin' on but it's somethin' alright.

EDIT: Okay did a bit of additional testing, found out what's up. When you first boot up the game from the Satiator, there will be no sound, and pressing anything during the intro cutscene will cause it to freeze. If you mash start when it says "TAKARA" it instead boots up as normal, but with no sound.

If you restart at any time, it just works as normal, with no issues. So it's certainly possible to play Steamgear Mash on Satiator with no issues, but you gotta go through a few hoops first.

Hi! It is working to me without resetting the console using the last beta version (same that fix MvsSF). If more info is required, I can check to provide. I booted the game using Rings menu.

lordviceroy commented 2 years ago

Good info to know; unfortunately this GitHub is for the stock Satiator FW/MNU, not RINGS, which is a 3rd party menu maintained by someone else.

I can confirm that this is still an issue when using the stock menu and the beta FW with the MSHvSF fix.

ferraca commented 2 years ago

Hi! I mentioned Rings because it was part of my setup. But I just tried again using Satiator Menu (v67) and the same problem happened to me. Sorry about that!

Peredonov commented 2 years ago

I tried to play this game today and also found this issue, and resetting indeed helped recover sound. However after the second time I tried to save (to RAM cart) the game froze, and reset button did not work so had to power cycle the console. I'm going to try again to play saving to the console memory instead and see if it happens again. edit: Was able to play through the game saving multiple times to console memory.
