I disagree with the multimers. All the multimers behave the same way, with unique properties that are specific to them and not of the subunits.
For the material type, it is only relevant for the difference between macromolecules and simple chemicals. For me, this distinction is a mess anyway. What we really have are stateful and stateless entities.
I am a bit reluctant to restrict people when it comes to UofI. As I mention in another comment, UofI do not affect the syntax, and are really a sort of annotation.

Currenty the Gyoh section separates out the controlled vocabs, the monomeric EPNs and then has a separate section on multimers. It seems to me that this would be much easier to understand if we put all the information together. e.g.
Macromolecule
- EPN descn
- Possible material types
- Multimer glyph
And so on for all the EPN types.
I think this would be clearer as all the relavtn information would be in one place.
