Using val causes the ObjectMetadata to be re-used, breaking s3 checksums

As an aside, it would be nice to get a 0.9 out the door with the metadata stuff -- I chased my tail for a while wondering why the 0.8 referenced in the readme didn't include the metadata key when I downloaded it.

Thank you for this fix. Yes, a 0.9 is overdue at this point. :)
