We currently believe we know the goals of our attendees:
My belief is the majority of our students fall into two groups: junior developers with some knowledge of Scala, and people with limited programming experience (sometimes none, sometimes they've completed a bootcamp or simliar) who are not currently employed as developers. The former want to advance their career. The latter want to switch to a programming career. We do often have more advanced students. They are difficult for us to serve: their more diverse backgrounds means it is difficult to form groups that have similar levels of knowledge. Given our limited resources I propose we don't serve advanced students at this point in time.
However we have not attempted to systematically validate this belief. We need to understand the goals of our attendees so that we can create a new curriculum that works for those goals.
My belief is that semi-structured interviews are the best way to determine this. I think in many cases students have multiple goals, or are unsure on their goals, so I don't think that e.g. a survey will be able to capture the subtlety here.
