oh, I needed to go to oss.sonatype.org and close and release the staging repo (04adad19151cc16ae9cc6bff6f394e1cfe69ab98 updates the release steps to explicitly say so)

the Nexus web UI is extremely laggy at the moment... it took several minutes before I was even able to see that the staging repo existed

anyway, done. waiting again.
