Summarizing what I have learnt about contributing to open sources effectively:

Issues:

• The issue must clearly state the purpose of its creation
• Use labels to check the status of the issue.
• Good-first-issue labels are suitable for beginner's in open source contributions.
• Notify others that you are working on the issue by comments, it will decrease conflicts b/w contributors.

Branches:

• Main/Master-Default and stable branch are important branches.
• Unique IDs in branch names.
• Avoid long descriptive names for branches.

Pull Request:

• Write appropriate commit messages and PR descriptions.
• The pull request should be created from a feature branch of the forked repo and not the main.
• The changes should be reviewed and tested before creating pull requests.
• Keep pr short.

After watching a lot of projects I have chosen a project and sent the team a comment, to assign that project to me.

Finding some other projects to contribute and trying to ask them to assign the project to me.

Some Tips for Hacktoberfest 2022

• Make sure the repository has the “Hacktoberfest” label before contributing.
• Avoid submitting low-quality pull requests/spammy PRs.
• Follow GitHub and Hacktberfest guidelines.
• All pull/merge requests must be submitted from October 1-30, to be eligible for Hacktoberfest goodies.
